A233 Sharks and Kin
Sharks are unique in that they have a cartilaginous skeleton,
instead of one made of bone. There have been a couple of
posters published on them, but they have been visually
boring. That's primarily due to the subject. There are over
470 species, but they all look pretty much the same. We’re
overcoming that by expanding the subject to include the
skates, rays and mantas as they come in a variety of shapes
and some are quite colorful. It will make the poster far
more visually interesting as well as more informative.
Biologically all of these fish are classified as
Chondrichthyes, which includes all the cartilaginous fish.
Although that is technically the subject of this poster,
most people will not be familiar with the term, which
resulted in a more acceptable title, Sharks and Kin.
STATUS: Research and layout complete. A few of the
pictures in the above layout we have as they were
commissioned for other posters. Most of the pictures are
temporary ones gleaned from various sources. They need to be
replaced with all-new original illustrations.
Our posters constantly evolve.
When we layout a new one, we use a tint background and
rather functional graphics. The above is an example of that.
As the poster develops, we experiment with different
backgrounds, graphic designs and color schemes. We often
commission a unique title logo, so the above is only a
starting place. Much more remains to be done.
